These images show a segment of the Mackenzie River about 1, kilometers (1, miles) upstream from the delta, where the river originates at Great Slave Lake in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8 captured natural-color views of the lake . Mackenzie Mountains, northern extension of the Rocky Mountains, in Yukon and in Inuvik and Fort Smith regions (Northwest Territories), range extends northwestward from the British Columbia border for approximately miles ( km) to the Peel River plateau and the Porcupine River basin. The mountains serve as the watershed for the basins of the Mackenzie River (east) and Yukon.
